The Shaw Auditorium is a new landmark of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology that not only allows for the hosting of large events, but also adds additional space for teaching and cultural activities. There is also a large common area and a staff office.
As a 4-storey, state-of-the-art multi-purpose auditorium designed with elliptical shapes, high atrium spaces, extensive cantilevered structures, and a world-class acoustic design, implementing BIM throughout the construction contributed to transformative value.
The Shaw Auditorium is qualified for HKGBC BEAM Plus with a rank of Provisional Platinum under New Buildings V1.2. In the project, non-ozone depleting refrigerants with low global warming potential will be used in air-conditioning units. Vibration levels from the building equipment and temperature variations of the AC system will be verified to comply with internationally recognized standards and BEAM Plus requirements.
